Should You Buy A Web Hosting Account First Or Build Your Website First?
I was looking at a website tutorial and they said I should buy the web host account first or it will cause problems later with my Dreamweaver. I’m just hesitant because I don’t want to pay for a site that doesn’t exist yet. I don’t even know how long its will take me to build the site. Any suggestions?

Hi,
It depends what kind of site you are making. If you are making the simplest kind of site, just some static html pages then there is no need to purchase web hosting first, you will be able to view your site fine just in a web browser locally.
However if you are using any features such as MySQL databases, PHP, etc. then you will need a hosting account to be able to actually view your site properly.
Hope that helps!
Regards,
Darryl
Unless you spend months on building a site, I wouldn’t worry too much about losing money by not having a website up. Also, hosting is so cheap these days you wouldn’t be losing too much anyway.
But generally I would say, at the very least, plan out your website on paper first exactly what your site will look like, what content you want to have, and how it will flow from page to page before getting hosting. This will save time on the actual building of the site.
Also, a great way to reduce the time spent on building a website is to use templates. You can modify the template to suite your tastes. This is a great way to avoid having to start from scratch and to get a professional looking website. This could cut your design time in half.
Shoot me an email or fillout my hosting assistance form on my website Webhostinggps.com if you would like to discuss further.
In my suggestion you should build your website first and then buy any hosting plan. Why pay money when you do not using anything. Hosting companies will tell to buy hosting plan first because of their profit but you should build your website first and then buy your hosting plan.
download and install wamp (windows, apache, mysql, php), its a web server that you can install locally on your machine. with it you can develop your site on your pc. I’ve been using it for about a year now. I have Dreamweaver CS4 also but I’ve started using Aptana.
and it’s free
In almost all cases…even for experienced web designers…you need to publish your pages along the way in order to check for desing issues. Oftentimes you will have a path wrong or something which will not show up on your local machine. Also, you will want to browse your site in differnet browsers like FireFox and Internet Explorer. You site may need to be tweaked along the way in order to adjust it to look good in both.
I have a “web design issues” post to help you get started here: http://stevesclassroom.com/blog/is-your-site-driving-visitors-away/
